Here are what most of consider, one of "the best" inkscape tutorial makers around.... HeathenX
On this page, you will scroll to the bottom to get his first screencast for inkscape tutorial, and continue on right through to the most recent.
This is actually the best place to start if you want to learn Inkscape

 Have fun

I've watched quite a few of his tutorials. Nice stuff. It's how I learned how to do something besides make some basic shapes.

OK time for a few more tut links that have been helpful to me. Also don't forget the manual and tuts in the help header when you have Inscape open.

This tutorial is meant to give absolute beginners a detailed understanding of using and applying colors and gradients in Inkscape, and the different options available to you when working with object color. This tutorial goes very slowly, and covers basics, so if you’re above beginner-intermediate level, this will probably bore you to tears.

I for one was not bored.  Cheesy  I am finding many places that tell about the gradient, but this one as promised does give the absolute beginner a good understanding of colors and gradients.

Of course I am finding understanding and applying are two different things.  Tongue
The site also offers several other fun things to try.....that are way above the beginner.
