** A slightly updated tip from the old forum. Thought it may be useful here for our new members. **
This quick tip has been extremely useful to me.
For some strange reason, on launching Inkscape you're always presented with the same set of document properties by whoever thought them up. It seems it would be natural, after inputting your desired preferences, to include a "save document properties" somewhere on that dialog.
What I did was to setup my preferences for each of the documents I'll create, name it appropriately and put a link on my desktop. One each for wallpaper (standard & widescreen), sig bar, avatar or whatever else you deem convenient.
For instance, since I'm working with a wide screen monitor, I made a custom size of 800x500 in landscape orientation, which makes sense, for me, if I want to use my drawing as a desktop wallpaper image without having to go into Document Properties every time.
If you become an Inkscape power user and work with multiple different page sizes, snap to's and grid/guides, then use a desktop link for each.
Cheers
