As typical, I changed distros (some).  I was using openSUSE but then I finally got a wireless router I noticed that I kept loosing connection and was not getting it back sometimes. This happened even if I was sitting right on top of the router (it's in the basement).

So I tried the LiveCD of Ubuntu first to test the wireless connection and had a couple constant-updating apps running.  After watching a movie,  I checked in on it and it was working perfectly fine.

So I replaced openSUSE with Ubuntu because I am at the stage that I just want the laptop to work when I turn it on.  So far so good, even though it's running Gnome.

Is it true that PCLinuxOS is a rolling release as opposed to a 6/9/18 month release?  Gentoo is the only one I've heard that was a rolling release but it's a pain to install/compile everything.

Yes, it is.

I don't know if that's good one way or the other, being a Linux neophyte.

Coming from Windows, I used to wipe and install that OS (Win2K, never got to XP  Cheesy) at least once a year (often sooner) anyway.

But I like PCLOS and if I didn't FUBAR it about eight months into the original install, I'd still be about 13 months into the original without slowdowns or problems.

Cheers

Cosmosis?  Huh  Cool!  Never heard of it!   Wink

And you like it better than the others?  I've been quite fond of Mepis because it seemed to fit me well, and now I may be developing an addiction to Debian (Testing/Lenny).  But I'm always up for trying a different distro - it's just good to explore.  Can you say what drew you to Cosmosis?

Well,I find Cosmosis to be as good as Mepis, and better than fedora and Ubuntu.
I'm using  the very first Cosmosis Cos has done. He's made a CD,but I've not tried it yet.
Well, after the 9th reinstall of Klikit, I'd had enough and was ready to install Mint or Mepis and be done with it.
But then Cos told me he'd remastered a distro and asked if i wanted to test it.
I liked his remastered Klikit (even though it ended up having problems.) so i decided to give it a go.
Cosmosis has been truly amazing! I can watch DVD's,watch internet TV and so forth. I have been so impressed. It just works...
And quite honestly,I started with Linspire and I got spoiled. I want my Linux to just work with a minimum of fiddling on my part. (Except in KDE,which i enjoy tinkering with.) Grin
Yesterday,Cos helped me config my sound card to get the headset to work so I can use Skype.
I'm quite impressed with this distro and Cos's willingness to go that extra mile to help users who hit a bump.

Is there a location for download or to find more information on Cosmosis?
