My new avatar started out with only a few frames but playing with gif files is so addicting by the time I had it to this point I'm over 100 frames.  Maybe I'll give cartooning a shot using Gimp.

For some strange reason the avatar is not playing correctly in my browser. I right-clicked on it and chose "View image", it still wasn' playing correctly, so I changed the suffix from .jpg to .gif and it displayed correctly.

http://i49.tinypic.com/260d9bo.gif The suffix is the only difference because I downloaded the avatar to see what was wrong with it and it wouldn't open in the GIMP until I changed the suffix to .gif.

A lot of hard work went into that image, its a pity not to have it displaying correctly.

   Hey Paul,

I have to watch too when I download and open files sometimes with Gimp.  Those 3 letters in the suffix sure do make a difference and once in a while Gimp has a mind of it's own and throws up the wrong file label.  Don't know why it does that. Just have to keep an eye on it.  Wink

Well the image is working properly for me now. Just checked and it came up as '260d9bo.jpg.gif'. Whatever!

At least it is doing its thing properly now. Good work. Must have taken a bit of time and effort. How many layers? 144 by my count.

I think that's what I ended up with.  I had about six more images that didn't get used in the final gif.  It doesn't take much more than about 2 hours to complete.  The trick is to draw the different poses first so you can drag them as needed to the image.  I'm working on a tutorial on how I do these but God only knows when I'll get that finished.

What I'd like now are suggestions for future adventures of Luigi.   I've got one in the works for spring but could use more ideas.

And God is watching...so you better hurry up!  Grin

Maybe in the summer Luigi could be diving into a pool or something.  Maybe he could be parachuting from a plane or something.  Maybe he could be fishing or something.  Maybe he could be on a beach with a beach umbrella/beach ball or something.  Maybe he could be flying a kite or something.

Now about that tutorial............ Tongue

Way cool Dad. I'm just  getting into animation. I didn't know you  could do it in Gimp until yesterday I found it. Do you  just save it as a  gif or is there  an animated gif? I broke down and bought Xara Xtreme 5 which has animation, which I  have been using for the past week or so. I'm not very good in Gimp.

When you save as gif, a window opens where you're asked if you want to save it animated.
