I'm giving Lucid a test run now and if i really like it,I'll be reinstalling next month.
 I sure appreciate the feedback...
Well,I downloaded it again and tried..Normally when I click,it stops, but now when I click,it draws a little circle where i clicked and then keeps right on selecting..Well I was messing around with it and something really interesting occurred..I was able to enlarge and shrink and animate the piece of "thread" I was dragging about.
I've never seen anything like this before. If this was a pencil, this would have been extremely cool.
Anyway, here is free select selecting and it thinks it's a pencil.
Anyway,I decided to send this to the webmaster and hopefully he/she will pass it along.

The circle thing is supposed to happen.  Basically when you stop the drag-click instead of closing the select it gives you the option for a straight line select.  If you drag the cursor to the beginning of your selection a new circle will appear, just click on the new circle and the selection should close (see attached snap shot).

They basically made free select into both a "free select" tool and a "quasi-path select" tool

Oh THANK YOU!
  I'll give it a shot.

Ok,still having problems with it.
I can no longer select a piece from the art I'm working on,say a flower and move it. .This is really stupid. The lasso does not change to a move tool like it used to and the move tool moves the whole page and not the tiny bit I want moved.
I need to find a wall to bang a developer's head on who thought he was making Gimp "easier" to use.

Cut and paste, then your selection should be able to be moved like before albeit in a new layer.

Ok,REALLY good news. E2 at Linux Internationals fixed it...He had me open a terminal and set Gimp back to the beginning...Problem solved.
I'm truly delighted. Grin
So if you ever have really stupid problems, just go here:

Ok I found a way around the problem. If I switch to the eclipse toolI know this does not make sense and I'm not explaneing it very well. when I go back in to paste something, the circle and string is no longer there. I just have to remember to do this .

A Google search returns that Gimp 2.8 may not be released this year.

When will GIMP 2.8 be released?

So any version in use will be a development release only, AFAIK.

I'm interested in their single window interface. Just when I'm getting used to the multi-window interface!
