Old 'LGU' Guys Rule.

« on: February 16, 2011, 01:16:11 AM »

I've taken to supporting a young man in the US Army - and his platoon.
I'm not too proud of this particular piece, but I did manage to use GIMP to eliminate unwanted white backgrounds on the 2 main elements, and Inkscape for the rest.

You, yourself might not think it's a great piece (looks good to me), but supporting the men and women that lay their lives on the line everyday is something we should all endeavor to do. I'm proud of you, thanks.

Thanks, ms_meme.
This particular young man is someone who has known my daughter for more than half a decade.  And they seem to have intentions ...
... and I couldn't be more pleased.
I will do all I can for him and for his platoon (the guys covering his proverbial arse.)  My reach/influence only goes so far, but I'll do what I can.

Get work Tim. I don't see anything wrong with it. It's a great way to support our troops, we need more of that from our country as a whole. Keep it up.

Excellent! How did you do the hat?

Honestly, I just ripped both images off the 'net, and opened them both in GIMP - on separate layers.  I had already gotten rid of the unwanted white background on the shield image some time ago, but realized I had removed just a small bit of the upper right pointy part.  So back to square 0.

Then I rotated and positioned the hat using the shield part as a reference, and used round brushes with the eraser tool to get rid of the part of the brim on the hat that's "behind" the shield part.
Then I double checked  with Inkscape (The images display a little differently in the 2 programs.)
