Stumbled across this program the other day. http://www.makehuman.org/blog/index.php I've been looking for something like this for a while. I've read I could do the same thing using Blender but MakeHuman is a short cut to get the desired results. The drawback is I can't run it in Linux. Maybe it will run in Wine. I've set up virtual box and am running it in XP. This means I'm finally free from using models belonging to someone else. As in my Deviant Art site. You'll still need to download hair and clothes, can get them on Deviant Art as free stock. This opens up a whole new avenue in digital art. For those into animation maybe incorporating models in boot and splash screens. Or Linux tutorials guided by a digital instructor. The possibilities are endless. The screenshot shows it running in Virtual Box on my pc. This is the start screen.

I just tried and it runs great in Wine. But having trouble saving work to Linux.

This is a great program, I have run this in linux but I'm not sure how I did it, it's been a while.

makeHuman was originally a script to add into blender (python i believe).

I have the older version. I like it better, it allows you to create fantasy characters. I have it on my Ubuntu studio system. I don't know why they didn't add that feature in the newer version. However, I am having problems installing the aqsis render engine.

I tried installing aqsis to run makehuman but there are way too many dependencies for both. I didn't want to break my os.

I know what you mean. It seems like you get one discrepancy fixed, then it finds another discrepancy. I been reading this is a bug in version 1.2. The article said to fix this, upgrade to version1.4. But I can only find 1.4 as an RPM.

We had aqsis running fine for k3d a while back for GRANULAR.. but I don't remember much on it as I have not tested it in quite a while. I should actually get back into it, as one of our devs Chris built it at my request, and I should not have it have been done in vain. The dependancies were extremely heavy as I remember... but then again, as all apps grow, so do the dependancies... I call it the "Pandora's Box" effect

The dependancies were extremely heavy as I remember... but then again, as all apps grow, so do the dependancies... I call it the "Pandora's Box" effect Wink Yea, the dependencies are pretty heavy. They did add some unique textures and sss shaders. I tried it out once on Windows Vista. I was impressed by the results. But like the problem Dadster was having, I couldn't save the image. lol, Pandora's Box effect. you open up a whole new door there.

funny, just run across this looking for a tutorial. If you’re interested in using MakeHuman to generate models for rigging in Blender, then Blender Underground’s chief specialist, Penix1, has something just for you. He has posted a detailed three part tutorial on how to make use of MakeHuman models in Blender. Part 1 of the series even begins with instructions on compiling the MakeHuman source in Linux.
