  Hi,

I can't tell you whats going on in inkscape, I am barely familiar with it myself.
But I would uninstall the program, including the .inkscape folder - download the program again  and reinstall it.

The program sounds like it may have gotten corrupted.
Also this may not be the best forum for fixing the program, you may get better results by going to http://www.inkscape.org/

Welcome Djallalnamri.

... Or asking at the Ubuntu forum as there may be a dependency problem.

Cheers

I think I had the same experience.  If I remember correctly, the solution was to go into my home folder and find the folder called ".inkscape" (the "." makes it a "hidden" file.  You need to chose to "Show Hidden Files" in your file browser.)
In that folder, I re-named the file called preferences.xml by putting a "~" at the end of the file name.

I think that the next time I opened Inkscape the preferences.xml file was re-created and I never had the problem again.

Yeah, I think that for some reason Inkscape 0.46 comes with a blank or empty preferences.xml file.  Then when the Inkscape program tries to use that xml file, it can't, because it has no xml data in it.  Seems a little mysterious to me.   Undecided

I wonder if yours are slightly customized packages for your distros.  (?)

If I remember right I downloaded the package from Inkscape. Ubuntu/Klikt 8.04 didn't have the upgrade. LXDE came from Debian lenny site.

Oh, I see.  I don't know if it makes the difference, but I see that Lenny has 0.46-2 and I compiled the 0.46-3 svn version.

That much I understand.  Funny thing is, it's performed like a champ apart from the bit right at the beginning due to that one little empty xml file.   Tongue
