Pencil is an animation/drawing software for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. It lets you create traditional hand-drawn animation (cartoon) using both bitmap and vector graphics. Pencil is free and open source. Home Page > http://www.les-stooges.org/pascal/pencil/

For those of you who what to try Pencil I've been able to get it to work fairly well in wine. As some of you may know the deb package 4.3 doesn't have a way to turn off the auto save which is very annoying, it auto saves every 20 strokes. install wine from synpatic or what ever repository your distro uses. Download the 4.4 package for windows and then exact to your /home directory then then open the exacted folder and left click on the pencil.exe file, Pencil should launch. I've placed a copy on my desktop.
Hope I can get back in here on a more regular bases.

I've been playing around with Pencil windoze build, it doesn't work as well as the deb for linux. I seems that the drawing tools lines are along side if the pointer, that said I've gone back to the linux 4.3 build and found if you do a save the first time the window opens there is only a very quick flash there after when it auto saves. I don't think this is much of a bother and a good thing to be doing anyway. My $.02

It looks like it is gone. I tried their forum also with the same result. Another neat app gone but I'll keep checking maybe they are changing servers or something.

The 4.4 deb is 'buntu, I was able to install it in Mepis, you will get an error message but it will also show a broken package. Fix the broken package and it should install ok from there.

Looks like apt-get install libming0 prior to installing Pencil will prevent the broken package issue. 'That's what Fix Broken Packages' in Synaptic installs to fix the "Broken Pencil."
