I just finished updating our WordPress front page to the latest version.

A facebook group has been created for LGU! The rules are bit more relaxed at the FB site. Have fun, mingle… share. Hope to see everyone there.

It’s been a while since Linux Graphics Users forum has held a contest for our members. We’ve all been busy over the spring and summer with work, the kids home from school, planning vacations or life in general. Now it’s time to have some fun.

LGU is happy to announce our 1st Fall/Winter Linux graphics art contest.

The contest starts Friday the 30th of October and runs until December 27th midnight. Winners will be announced sometime the following week. Feel free to ask any questions.

XaraLX builds against the newest wxwidgets libs!

This is awesome news for XaraLX fans. It means we can continue to use our favorite graphics app on KDE 4.x systems. My friend Gettinther has built XaraLX against the newer wxwidgets for the “Unity Linux” project, and I am glad to announce, it works like a charm on my KDE 4.3 install.

There are some small items I need to go over, fix, and set, concerning the tool bars, etc. and will go over them with Gettinther once we both have a moment, and then the new build will be sent upstream to none-other-than Charles Moir, himself to see if we can get this source back up for the general public, as well as “maybe” throw a nice autopackage together, to go along with the rpm.

At the “Xarino” project (which is an attempt to move the xaralx project back into active development) we also may have someone to put a .deb together as well.

Yup, it’s true…

This page was hacked yesterday, and it took me a while to figure out what they did, and then fix it.

The attack was not as malicious as some I have seen around the web, so I am very thankful for that. But, nonetheless, an attack it was, and it angered me greatly. As a result, I will be following all the protocol to ensure the attackers email and IP are reported and placed on every black-list and trackers out there.

I was able to obtain quite a bit of info on the attacker, whom ever or what ever it may be, will be logged now.

Anyway, I am just thankful I was able to rescue this page, and that the attack was not as bad as I have seen around (as I mentioned) Sometimes, these attacks come from real people, who do this, in order to obtain free credits for playing various online games… and things like that.

Pretty sad, isn’t it? That someone would have such a pathetic life, that this would be a way to have fun? At other people’s expense (who are not bothering anyone)

Well… the site is safe (for now) But I will be working on making this area as secure as possible, using WP security apps/plugins, etc. But there is never a guarantee that this sort of attack will never happen again. And if it does, it could be worse, or it could be less, or just as it was this time. I pray it does not happen again, cuz I was really, really ticked off and I am having problems with blood-pressure as it is with all my personal “life-issues” going on the past 5 years.

I have gone through and upgraded the accounts of some of you. Please check and be sure you were not forgotten, and let me know if you were, and I will fix it a.s.a.p. Accounts range from author to contributor. I have not checked out the features associated to each, but I will and then make any changes I see fit, per member.

I have disabled registration (for now) till I can get things more secure. If you want to register on this WordPress page, send me an email and I will add your account, manually for now.

Well, I have been working on a new theme for our smf forum, hoping to get it to match this WordPress theme a bit.

I still have to set the custom images (like the header background and body background) into the folder on the server, itself as they are only linked via an external url for the moment.

If you do not see these images at first, right click on the header (same directions for the body).. click “view background image” then go back, and refresh the page and they will appear.

Questions and comments on the new theme are greatly appreciated. Once the Beta them is all setup, it will be set as the default for our community. I will also be working on a similar theme, only making it a light version, for those who like light themes as opposed to dark ones.

Thanks to our good friend Anarag Bhandari (creator & lead developer for Granular Linux), our big switch to our new WordPress CMS is done. Thank you Anarag, as well as to all the LGU members, & staff for being so extremely patient in all this.

I am still learning the countless abilities available, using WordPress as a CMS, so please bear with us while we begin to explore and test out different items.

LGU Staff

Wordpress is finally installed onto LGU’s server. The header for the theme has been customized, and a few adjustments / editing made, such as the link to the forum. But that link will need to change, once this frontend WP page is switched to use the http://linuxgraphicsusers.com url. Once that change happens, anyone who goes to that url will be brought to this page.

Intended, will be the addition of a link to the new LGU member’s gallery, as well as links to many other web pages related to the LGU community. It will be fun to experiment, and learn all the various options, using Wordpress as a cms will bring.

I know there a a few media, plugins I want to experiment with… like a slideshow, and even some audio/video player plugins.
